Forget those flaccid horror movie sequels as MIX's trailblazing queer horror spotlight Scared Stiff returns like a bat outta hell to strike terror into your heart and slash pale imitators to ribbons. Lesbian vampires (naturally), human sacrifice, skeletons with boners and serial Internet stalkers converge in this coven of macabre and sexy shorts. Featuring work by Jenelle Troxell, Wayne Yung, Shawn Durr and Bobby Abate. Curated by the Festival Committee. Party to follow at Idlewild, 145 East Houston Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenue).

Marcilla ••• (Jenelle Troxell, 2001, USA, 16mm, b&w, sound, 12 min.) Fantasy and reality merge as a lonely female student is seduced by a mysterious woman among the shadow-mottled library stacks. A rapturously filmed interpretation of Sheridan Le Fanu's famed 1871 novella Carmilla, the first-ever lesbian vampire tale.

The Making of Dandy Dust ••• (Tina Keane, Germany, digital video, color, sound, 18 min.) An unconventional behind-the-scenes look at the making of the pioneering tranny/splatter/sci-fi movie Dandy Dust. Marvel at the innovative lo-fi special effects used to create the spurting universe of sex mutants and cyborgs.

Chopstick, Bloody Chopstick (Wayne Yung and Shawn Durr, 2001, USA, digital video, color, sound, 14 min.) A neurotic gay man describes his failed romances to his mute Asian boyfriend. But what's with the dead white guys slumped all over the place?

Lucky (Bobby Abate, 2001, USA, digital video, color, sound, 13 min.) Psychological interiors of technology and sexual confusion. The Internet, streaming porn and the trailer for Scream become a new, claustrophobic playground for sexual anxiety and blood lust.

The Fragile Skin (John Carr, 2000, UK, color, sound, 22 min.) Amid the creeping desolation of an abandoned house, the heiress Mina is swept into an eldritch world of devil worship, human sacrifice and awful things that roam the night. Just try not to run screaming from the theater!
